March Minutes

Hello New Friends and Old!  I love you all and am so happy to be here connecting and sharing music and art.    I find the act of creating something (anything) is a necessary nutrient for me in life, and sharing the process is equally or even more rewarding.  I highly recommend both to anyone looking for something to complete their life.

I am knee deep in recording, taking steps to immerse totally and get an EP recorded by the end of this year.  I have chosen six songs to focus on and finish and working on the theme, cover and all the endless details to design the CD I intend to create.  I also will be sharing a free mp3 recording very soon to all my email list subscribers, by the end of April (that’s YOU guys!)

Making more big bowls for a commission, and have been doing some livestreaming on facebook showing the throwing process, which makes me be a bit more conscientious since I am on display while working the clay, interesting mental exercise for sure.  You can see those at this link if you click on ‘videos’    http://www.facebook.com/DesertDragonPottery

I will be livestreaming more music and art, having way too much fun with the feedback and inspiration it provides, if anyone on this list would like to see it happen on youtube, or another website outside of facebook, please message me or comment, I have been thinking of widening my broadcasting for non-facebook folks!

Meanwhile, have a magical March, I will be back before the end of it with more fun and remember…   Express yourself!!! Don’t Hold Back!!

Love to all!!! <3

February Fineries

Hello  Fine Friends!

February is flying by and I have not quite met my goal of writing a song-a-day, but I am almost at 15 for the month (so far) and hoping for at least a couple more before month’s end.  With everything else keeping up with the day-to-day and life’s crazies I am pretty happy with what I have gotten done and hoping for some fun things to share soon!

I had my sixtieth birthday and celebrated by having a photo session with my grandkids, here are a couple cute pics that came of that-

( I noticed that in some emails the photos do not send, if you cannot see them and you want to, click over to the site and you can see them there)

On the clay side of life we have a woodfire going this week with the first batch of thirty large tiles we have commissioned for a hospital in Yuma, it will be exciting to see how those turn out.  I think this is Puff’s sixth firing, so good to see her getting fired and turning out beautiful artwork!

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your February (not much left!)  I will be trying to spin out a couple more tunes and looking forward to sharing with you at our next connection!!

I really mean this when I say I love you all and hope for peace and prosperity for every one of us!  Love is really all we have and I intend to nurture as much as I possibly can in the time I have here.    Hugs and more hugs!

Hello Fellow Creative Beings!!!

I hope your spirit and your life and your atmosphere are joyful and uplifting, enjoy every moment because its really all you’ve got.  I have been completely enjoying and engaged in sharing my creativity online this month, in a more continuous, consistent and organised manner, taking part in a really fun challenge offered by Bob Baker at www.bobbaker.com

In the course of stepping up to the challenge, I have done ten days of sharing songwriting, with my fans, livestreaming most days on Facebook, then ten days of drawing and painting, again, livestreaming along with some sharing of photos and text.  Currently I am finishing up the challenge with ten days of presentations regarding pottery and my experiences with it.  I am really enjoying the work that has come out of these ‘sharings’, and the connection and response it has earned me from friends and fans, very rewarding.

Here are photos of some of the drawings/paintings-

I am so grateful for all of my fans, and friends, near and far and consider us all a part of the human family, brothers, sisters and that annoying cousin!

My next adventure I am taking on is the month of February is set aside to write fourteen songs, minimum, with a group of crazy songwriters at a site  http://www.fawm.org

known as FAWM it’s just another self challenge and incredibly fun and inspiring, this is my second year and I am sure I will be sharing new songs with you soon!!  I have new toys to use in my recording and my songs and I am completely set to get ready, set and GO!

I really do love you all and hope everyone out there is having a wonderful January.  February is my favorite, I will be sending a note again soon!!  Go forth and create, it’s fun and therapeutic!! XO

Happy New Year!!   Here it is, always a relief to get past the holiday craziness and settle into a brand new year with reflection and anticipation  creating a tasty stew of Here We Go.

I am beginning the year with a special project I have taken on with a bunch of fellow artists and creators, a 30 day challenge to post something creative every day, without fail.  My platform is facebook and the livestream posts will be called “A Month of Magical Mishy Moments”, and include three ten day sets of videos on separate creative endeavors.  First ten days- Songwriting from Idea to Recording  Second ten days-  Making a Series of Teapots  Third ten days-  Drawing/Painting a Series from an Idea or Photograph.   Part of the fun of livestream is the immediate and interactive nature so please join me and share the process intimately and informally along with other creative creatures.  Another part of the excitement and motivation is that I am sharing the adventure with a bunch of other artsy folks who are doing the same thing in their internet world, in a joint attempt to amp up our individual and mutual sharing of what we do.  Day One and I am completely enthralled.  If you can’t join me live, I will be posting the videos on my personal facebook page for future viewing and response.      Today was so much fun, I definitely feel like it’s going to be quite a ride!

My video was all pixillated, hope to be fixing that issue before tomorrow’s broadcast!

A Month of Magical Mishy Moments Episode I

I think part of what I do best in life is being a creative catalyst…Do it!!  I will be posting again soon, hope to see you for some of my month of sharing!

Hugs and New Year Blessings,

December Delights

Greetings Fellow Earth Beings!

Wow, here we are already halfway through this final month of 2017, preparing to bid adieu to the year.

I have had a pretty crazy couple weeks, making pottery, working the clay studio, writing music, recording music, watching grandkids, same old stuff but at a fairly intense pace just now!  The Patreon launch was fun and happily I got a couple patrons right off the first day (THANK YOU!  <3  You know who you are)….  It is motivation and inspiration and I am so very grateful!!

Finalized a pottery commission this week, and began work on a couple upcoming projects, mostly cleaning the studio up for our holiday open house and setting it up all purty.   We have our 19th Annual this year and as always we have live music, pottery demonstrations, games, great food and firespinning at dark!   Please join us if you can, it runs noon to 7pm this Sunday December 17, 2017.

Some of Mishy’s crazy clay creations-

This past week a  Christmas song started writing itself in my head when Hanukkah suddenly arrived and my brain switched, so I finished the Hanukkah song but the Christmas song is still in progress.  Sometimes they are just gifted from the creative pool flow!

Recording has been going really well for me, finally feel like I am getting a handle on the first stage (getting the sound onto digital), next is ‘mixing’ then ‘mastering’ once I finalize the ‘recording’ part.  I have most of it done and edited other than vocals.  Can’t wait to be ready to share it!!!  It certainly is a complicated, and intriguing process.  Less is more but I want more and more!!

Please post a comment, share and above all please create, it’s good for all of us!!

Be safe, be healthy, be joyous and above all be creative this season and all seasons!  Peace, prosperity, health and happiness to all!!

I will be posting again before 2018 arrives!  Enjoy the rest of this precious year, what little is left.  Love and Light,

October Occasions

Hello Fellow Creative Creatures!!!

Always good to reach out to you my friends and share what is going on in my world with art and music.  I have always been a ‘natural networker’ (social butterfly) and this venue is comfortable and seems to work for the connection!  Thanks for hanging out and hanging in!

A good testament to my aim to combine my clay and my music, I have been making pottery mugs for various friends around the world, some are on this mailing list and sending them as gifts for the joy they give me always being so receptive to hearing me fumble through live playing and share what I love most with those who might like it too.  I sent one to Bulgaria (hi Lily!) recently, it’s not arrived yet, and sending another to Canada soon (hi Lu!)  Very fun to have that connection and thank you always for being open to listening!    Also working on several ongoing commissions and the busy shop, livestreaming classes occasionally and getting into the busy season for the holidays.  Pictured below a couple pieces from my four year old grandson, the one on the right is unfired, a dragon and his water bowl, on the right the glazed one is a collaboration with his eight year old girl cousin, she told me asked her to make his volcano into a ‘saber tooth volcano’, and this is the result <3

I have been working on recording, moving along and becoming more confident that I can actually pull it off,  only time will tell!  By this time next month I am hoping to have a finished recording.  Meanwhile I went to an open mic and you may have seen this on facebook but this is a live performance at open mic of the song I am working –    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOqiwydrytE

I was not able to embed the video last time so going to try a link this time, if it’s blank just click over to the website and you can see it there.  Please post a comment if you feel so inclined so I know you are reading this and thank you again for being a part of this little tribe.

Everyone take your October Opportunities!!!  I love Halloween and Thanksgiving always such fun holidays and good eating.  Be mindful, enjoy every moment with love and awareness of the good!

September Stuff

Greetings fellow creative cronies!!!

Here we are falling into October, wow!  Things have been busy enough at the clay studio that I have not taken any time to paint or draw (yet)…however I have been doing clay projects for a few commissions we have taken on.  One commission we may do is creating racing pigeon nest bowls.  Apparently prize racing pigeons are paired and the chicks go for $1500 a piece!  And nobody in the US is making these unglazed bowls, there is a place in the country where you can go pick them up, they won’t ship them.  Very strange business I am in!   Tomorrow we are hosting Dave Beaty again, teaching watercolor, I am very much looking forward to learning from him in a medium I am very unfamiliar with.  Including a photo of some in progress bowls for a commission including some intended for family heirlooms which makes me feel good.

I have been working on songs, and recording, doing a little here and there and getting to know some new software and decide which song or songs to record, and how. Lots of decisions to make and ear-practice to get to where I feel remotely capable!  The Monday Mash is going on Week 23 I believe this week, I am having the best fun arranging my set and executing the ‘show’.   Thanks to any of you who are able to view it!!   One more photo, from my early morning walk yesterday, really pretty weather this time of year here.

Here is hoping everyone is well and happy, enjoy every moment its really all we have, I am savoring this moment sharing my world with you all and it is a blessing I am very grateful for.  Please comment and share if you feel so compelled and soon new music  and art will be heading your way from an open heart!!

Hugs to all,

August Aways

Hello my friends and fellow art and music aficionados!

I am currently in Arkansas enjoying some time with my sister’s family and seeing my mom and brother.  Sure is green here and wet…=)

I had planned to try to send this out a few days ago but travel and family visiting took precedence.  Amidst all the angst, chaos and instability of our world, it is nice to find my center, with the people I come from.  Nothing like good family to give one perspective and strength, I am so grateful for mine.

I was compelled to do a couple larger canvases using acrylic paints, something I have never really worked in before, the first one a flower theme, the second a music theme.  Including some photos of a pastel sketch, a watercolor pencil sketch and the latest version of the biggest canvas.  I am finding it intriguing to explore color and shape in a new medium.

Canvas is 24×36″

Spending some quality music time while I am visiting here,  the universal language, had a fun jam last night and hoping for more before I have to go back to my real world.    I have been soaking up more recording, mixing and mastering information from books and online and writing some new songs recently, can’t seem to get enough of all that stuff.  When I return to Phoenix I am planning to get back more into my recording project with a goal of finishing a Mishy “EP” by mid 2018, maybe sooner.  I am going to share the lyrics of my newest song titled The Road Will Come to You inspired by my gravel road being paved in asphalt.  I have lived here since 1994 and it will take me awhile before I am used to the change!!!

If the world around you is crumbling
Everything falling into a heap
You have no idea what you can do
Only time with no fear when you sleep

sit tight
hang on to the light
stay your own sweet self
wait and see whats your next cue

If your loved one is having to suffer
All you can do is hold on to their hand
Spirit flames as you give what you can
Glowing strong helping them make their stand

Do your Best
Life will do the rest
Put hate up on the shelf
and the road will come to you
The Road will Come to You

If your hopes and dreams seem so far
Desperation too close a friend
Remember there’s always more time
Right up until the bitter end

Just keep taking those steps, one foot in front of the next
Lift your eyes to the sky remembering how you are blessed

If the world around you is crumbling
Everything falling into a heap
You have no idea what you can do
Only time with no fear when you sleep

sit tight
hang on to the light
stay your own sweet self
wait and see whats your next cue
Do your Best
Life will do the rest
Put hate up on the shelf
and the road will come to you
The Road will Come to You

Here is hope that everyone reading this is healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful, and that our world is going to straighten out soon or at the very least start pushing for good and love,  and against hate, injustice and evil!

Love to all <3  You will hear from me again soon!!

May Musings

Greetings fellow earthlings!

I hope this finds everyone well, and enjoying Spring 2017.  Remember it is this moment right NOW that counts most!  Hugs!

Wow, so our pottery studio cleaning day turned into a week, and probably a month by the time things are really in place.  But the re-organization and purging of unnecessary ‘stuff’ is already amazing!  Kudos to all my studio members and our helpers I am eternally grateful.  We are continuing to create a space more easily navigated, cleaned and maintained and it is already showing!

Our latest adventure at Desert Dragon Pottery  was to fire our wood kiln for her third go-round!  This event happened the last weekend in May and was featured on livestream on facebook!  It started Friday and fired fifteen hours with constant attention and feeding fuel, quite an endeavor,  here are a couple of my personal favorites of mine that were submitted to the fire.

Lots going on in the studio this summer, a special class July 1 with Dave Beaty of Marvel Comics, drawing superheroes on coasters, mugs or plates, Summer Kids Camp, and some commissions keeping us hopping!

On the creative audio’lision’ side of life-

I was able to get into the recording studio and finalize all my ‘tracks’ for the current songs I am trying to get done.  I decided to ask a talented local musician lady Suzanne Lansford to add a violin track on two of them, so all should be finalized soon!  I have a goal to write a dozen songs in the next 90 days, planning on one per week and you all will be seeing this blog incoming twice a month now, I am stepping up my email game!!  And stay tuned for your very own free Mishy song coming to your email inbox SOON!  I have the track picked out and will be sharing it with everyone when I reach my first 100 subscribers (at 98 but 2 are me).  Stay tuned, you will probably be hearing from me very soon <3   Showing off my new guitar strap from Mother’s Day

If you are reading this and you have not signed up for the blog, please go over there on the left side of this screen and put your email in, then confirm to join the Mishy’s Mash Tribe!  Our aim is, creativity,  passion,  joy and art!!
