November Noise

Hello Creative Creatures!!

Here it is already past halfway through this month and coming up on the New Year!  I know…shhhh too soon!!

Holiday season brings many wonderful blessings, family gatherings, gifting, gratitude wonderful stuff!!  Desert Dragon Pottery has a Holiday Studio Open House we are planning and this year we hope to have an additional pottery/art sale and a yard sale trying to clear out and share our gifts with the world!

I have been making good progress on my recording, learning a lot from my class with Katie Heath

http://wwwkatieheathstudios.com

In fact, I was the lucky winner of a contest she held, and I won a $100 gift card to Sweetwater Music!!  I am still daydreaming about what I need, could be a mic-stand or a tablet holder, maybe some orchestra bell mallets ..fun, to shop!!

I made a big decision this past week, spurred on by a few  events that happened in my life that seemed to point me in a certain direction.  I am pursuing a “Patreon” account, which is explained at this link-

In setting up that account, I have done some great soul searching and brain storming and am working on a few aspects of the site that will be tailored to my Patreonic duty (haha).  I hope you will visit it , target date is November 30 to launch!

October Occasions

Hello Fellow Creative Creatures!!!

Always good to reach out to you my friends and share what is going on in my world with art and music.  I have always been a ‘natural networker’ (social butterfly) and this venue is comfortable and seems to work for the connection!  Thanks for hanging out and hanging in!

A good testament to my aim to combine my clay and my music, I have been making pottery mugs for various friends around the world, some are on this mailing list and sending them as gifts for the joy they give me always being so receptive to hearing me fumble through live playing and share what I love most with those who might like it too.  I sent one to Bulgaria (hi Lily!) recently, it’s not arrived yet, and sending another to Canada soon (hi Lu!)  Very fun to have that connection and thank you always for being open to listening!    Also working on several ongoing commissions and the busy shop, livestreaming classes occasionally and getting into the busy season for the holidays.  Pictured below a couple pieces from my four year old grandson, the one on the right is unfired, a dragon and his water bowl, on the right the glazed one is a collaboration with his eight year old girl cousin, she told me asked her to make his volcano into a ‘saber tooth volcano’, and this is the result <3

I have been working on recording, moving along and becoming more confident that I can actually pull it off,  only time will tell!  By this time next month I am hoping to have a finished recording.  Meanwhile I went to an open mic and you may have seen this on facebook but this is a live performance at open mic of the song I am working –    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOqiwydrytE

I was not able to embed the video last time so going to try a link this time, if it’s blank just click over to the website and you can see it there.  Please post a comment if you feel so inclined so I know you are reading this and thank you again for being a part of this little tribe.

Everyone take your October Opportunities!!!  I love Halloween and Thanksgiving always such fun holidays and good eating.  Be mindful, enjoy every moment with love and awareness of the good!

September Stuff

Greetings fellow creative cronies!!!

Here we are falling into October, wow!  Things have been busy enough at the clay studio that I have not taken any time to paint or draw (yet)…however I have been doing clay projects for a few commissions we have taken on.  One commission we may do is creating racing pigeon nest bowls.  Apparently prize racing pigeons are paired and the chicks go for $1500 a piece!  And nobody in the US is making these unglazed bowls, there is a place in the country where you can go pick them up, they won’t ship them.  Very strange business I am in!   Tomorrow we are hosting Dave Beaty again, teaching watercolor, I am very much looking forward to learning from him in a medium I am very unfamiliar with.  Including a photo of some in progress bowls for a commission including some intended for family heirlooms which makes me feel good.

I have been working on songs, and recording, doing a little here and there and getting to know some new software and decide which song or songs to record, and how. Lots of decisions to make and ear-practice to get to where I feel remotely capable!  The Monday Mash is going on Week 23 I believe this week, I am having the best fun arranging my set and executing the ‘show’.   Thanks to any of you who are able to view it!!   One more photo, from my early morning walk yesterday, really pretty weather this time of year here.

Here is hoping everyone is well and happy, enjoy every moment its really all we have, I am savoring this moment sharing my world with you all and it is a blessing I am very grateful for.  Please comment and share if you feel so compelled and soon new music  and art will be heading your way from an open heart!!

Hugs to all,

Mishy

September Scene

Greetings creative ones! (you don’t have to recognize it, I do!)

Well here we are in September and Mother Nature certainly has been needy of attention lately wow!  Makes our little microbursts here in the desert seem quite childish although they can get pretty drastic.  Prayers and all the support we can muster to help everyone get through rebuilding their homes and lives after the storms, it certainly puts things into perspective.

Teaching and managing the shop have been taking all my art energy the past couple weeks, it’s been super busy with classes and I am really enjoying the steady flow of new folks through the studio checking things out.  This week I am getting back to some painting and taking care of some clay projects that I have had ongoing, I will share those when they are at a point that they seem worthy.

I did manage to write a new song, a theme song for my weekly Monday facebook livestream, and when I debuted it this last Monday I teased that the lyrics would be in this blog post, so as I promised, below are the words to the new Mishy’s Mash theme song <3

Also sharing a video below with my friend Patty Arnold on flute,  Cary Kerstetter on bass and Yvonne Wan videotaping 🙂

Mishy’s Mash
Mishy’s gonna Mash
This fish gonna make her splash
Could be smooth could be slapdash
She gonna do the Mishy Mash

A jumbled assortment of odds and ends
Gathered assembly, melange of friends
Varied Collection topsy turvy grab bag
Hodgepodge mixture Salad zigzag

Mishy’s gonna Mash
This fish gonna make her splash
Could be smooth could be slapdash
She gonna do the Mishy Mash

Sweet sauce its a Potpourri
Mingle mangle in a Medley
Conglomeration  of Soul Stew
Helter skelter skewed view

Fishy splash, Mishy Mash, Wishy Dash, Squishy Thrash

Mishy’s gonna Mash
This fish gonna make her splash
Could be smooth could be slapdash
She gonna do the Mishy Mash

Being Crazy Isn’t Enough!

Thanks all and happy September, I will be visiting your email inbox again soon!

Love,

Mishy

August Again

Hello Art Allies!!!

This may or may not reach you in August, the mysteries of the cyber time stamp sometimes still surprise me at times.

I was able to spend time enjoying family and music while on my travels, and returned home to a frenzy of catch-up on  studio happenings.  It was important for me to go but also a crazy-busy time for the shop without me!  I am compelled to get back to some drawing and painting but have not had the chance yet, and looking forward to doing some large bowls for commissions I took on, after I finish the big colorful 3- bowl order.   What with travel fatigue and kiln- issues those have taken me longer than anticipated, but they are super cool and I will share photos when I get them!

On the Music side of life, I really had so much fun jamming with my sister’s family and sharing my music with them.  So rewarding and makes it all worthwhile.  I have a renewed resolve to get back to some recording and writing, now is the time!!   I want to get this message out before August gets completely away from me (it’s 2pm 8/31 here now)…You will be hearing from me mid-September again with whatever is new and worthy of note in my mind =)

Go forth and Create!!! It’s so much fun!!

August Aways

Hello my friends and fellow art and music aficionados!

I am currently in Arkansas enjoying some time with my sister’s family and seeing my mom and brother.  Sure is green here and wet…=)

I had planned to try to send this out a few days ago but travel and family visiting took precedence.  Amidst all the angst, chaos and instability of our world, it is nice to find my center, with the people I come from.  Nothing like good family to give one perspective and strength, I am so grateful for mine.

I was compelled to do a couple larger canvases using acrylic paints, something I have never really worked in before, the first one a flower theme, the second a music theme.  Including some photos of a pastel sketch, a watercolor pencil sketch and the latest version of the biggest canvas.  I am finding it intriguing to explore color and shape in a new medium.

Canvas is 24×36″

Spending some quality music time while I am visiting here,  the universal language, had a fun jam last night and hoping for more before I have to go back to my real world.    I have been soaking up more recording, mixing and mastering information from books and online and writing some new songs recently, can’t seem to get enough of all that stuff.  When I return to Phoenix I am planning to get back more into my recording project with a goal of finishing a Mishy “EP” by mid 2018, maybe sooner.  I am going to share the lyrics of my newest song titled The Road Will Come to You inspired by my gravel road being paved in asphalt.  I have lived here since 1994 and it will take me awhile before I am used to the change!!!

If the world around you is crumbling
Everything falling into a heap
You have no idea what you can do
Only time with no fear when you sleep

sit tight
hang on to the light
stay your own sweet self
wait and see whats your next cue

If your loved one is having to suffer
All you can do is hold on to their hand
Spirit flames as you give what you can
Glowing strong helping them make their stand

Do your Best
Life will do the rest
Put hate up on the shelf
and the road will come to you
The Road will Come to You

If your hopes and dreams seem so far
Desperation too close a friend
Remember there’s always more time
Right up until the bitter end

Just keep taking those steps, one foot in front of the next
Lift your eyes to the sky remembering how you are blessed

If the world around you is crumbling
Everything falling into a heap
You have no idea what you can do
Only time with no fear when you sleep

sit tight
hang on to the light
stay your own sweet self
wait and see whats your next cue
Do your Best
Life will do the rest
Put hate up on the shelf
and the road will come to you
The Road will Come to You

Here is hope that everyone reading this is healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful, and that our world is going to straighten out soon or at the very least start pushing for good and love,  and against hate, injustice and evil!

Love to all <3  You will hear from me again soon!!

July Jabber

Hello Creative Cronies!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer, I have had some time in the pool with my grandkids and consuming water as much as I can manage!

With the big flower project finalized, I have moved on to making some big ‘platters’, to be hung as decorative wall art, they are a challenge but fun when they make it!

I wanted to share something that came out very much as I hoped, this is my sister Susie’s urn, I finally was able to finish <3

Our mini taste of pottery classes are super busy this summer, the wheel seems to be popular so we are getting lots of new traffic coming though the studio which is always fun and keeps me hopping.

Had a tire blowout about a week ago, check this out!

On the music side of life, I have chosen a few more of my original songs to create ‘scratch’ tracks and begin the process of recording, still working on the final mixed and mastered versions of the recorded ones.   I have made a decision to (finally) pursue some more opportunities to play my music ‘out’ in public, other than the clay studio and online.  I am going to be accepting bookings as I can fit it into my schedule, if anyone knows of an occasion that would be enhanced by live music or anyone looking for an act please send the information my way!

Including an impromptu performance of my original song “It’s All About the Color” written in February 2017.  Enjoy 🙂

I hope everyone is having a wonderful July, I plan to send one more update before it’s over and I thank you for reading this far!!!

If you have not and would be so kind, I would so appreciate any signers up on my website email list at the top left of my site front page!  Love and Light to all <3

Hugs,

Mishy
